ประเดิมนิยาย gothic เล่มแรกด้วย La Morte Amoureuse โดย Théophile Gautier หรือภาษาไทยมีชื่อว่า “มรณาสุดที่รัก” เป็นหนังสือเล่มบางที่ใช้เวลาอ่านไม่นานก็จบ แต่ด้วยสำบัดสำนวนหรือบรรยากาศที่เล่าภายในเรื่องทำให้ถูกใจเราอยู่ไม่น้อยเหมือนกัน
ภาษาไทยที่ว่าแปลดีแล้ว แต่พอได้อ่านเป็นภาษาอังกฤษรู้สึกอินกว่าเดิมอีก –
“She was rather tall, with a form and bearing of a goddess. Her hair, of a soft blonde hue, was parted in the midst and flowed back over her temples in two rivers of rippling gold; she seemed a diademed queen.
